Baby Milestone

Keira, our little Princess, will be 15 months old on the 18th of this month.

For a while now we have had this little potty in our master bathroom:

You can click this link to get to Babies R Us website to see how much it is and get it shipped to you. 🙂

Anyway – whenever I go to the potty, she follows right behind me. I always ask her “Do you have to go pee pee?” She will point at the bear on the front and say “Pee-pee”. She’ll sit down and I have to get her up and get her pants off and her diaper to let her sit. But by the time I do that, she’s already went potty. I let her sit there anyway.

Well – yesterday at Big Daddy and Mawmaw’s house she kept saying “pee-pee, pee-pee” and pointing to her diaper. So I checked her but she wasn’t wet. Said it another few times and I finally asked her if she had to go to the potty. She started to walk off to the bathroom.

Once in there I got her pants and diaper off of her and sat her down on the big person potty. She sat there for a minute and kicking her feet, watching her pants fall off her feet. Then she started to fidget like she wanted down. So I stood her up, off to the side of the potty. Almost as soon as her feet it the floor she started to pee. I picked her back up really quick and she stopped and then when I sat her back on the potty she finished pee-peeing in the potty!

I told her “Good girl Keira! Yea!!” She just smiled and kicked her feet. Once I got her down and cleaned up she clapped and I hollared for her daddy to come get her and get a diaper on her. I cleaned up the floor and luckily she didn’t pee on her socks, shoes or pants.

I told her daycare teachers about it and told them to ask her if she needed to go throughout the day. I haven’t called to check on her yet today but I will be sure to ask when I pick her up. Hopefully by the time she’s two she will be fully potty trained – that’s the hope anyway.

If you have kids, how has potty training went for you??

Breaking Back In

I got pregnant in March of 2011 – it was warm so I mostly wore flip-flops. That trend continued until I gave birth. Old Navy flip-flops are the bomb!

Since Keira’s birth – it’s been flip-flops, riding boots or tennis shoes. This past Saturday and Sunday I wore heels for the first time. O.M.G. My feet were killing me!!! My favorite heels – LimeLight brand, brown swede with pink edging – 4″ heels.

But – after wearing them for two days and them killing me I decided to wear them again today. I have to say – they are pretty comfortable! Now – I’m looking to refill my shoe collection with heels. I only have two pairs I really like to wear….the other ones are an almost neon pink (they match a shirt I love to wear with a white cardigan).

I’m breaking my feet back in to the heels. Jeremy likes them – what man doesn’t like his woman in heels? I’ll take suggestions on my new shoe journey!

Getting There….

And I took pictures….but I forgot the card reader at home so I will have to upload them later. 🙂

I have talked about us redoing the front bathroom. I started on it last week. Go me!!

I bought some spackle – the earth friendly, no VOC and no smell kind – which is awesome. I sanded down the areas that needed spackled (where the cat scratched and some little child decided to carve his name into the wall) and started to putty it up. It wasn’t hard at all and didn’t take me long.

All the while that I was doing this I was thinking about paint and whether we should make the front bathroom just a shower instead of a tub and a shower. If it became just a shower we’d tile all the way up the wall and have to put in a glass divider thing. Once I started to think about it though – our shower head is on the left wall and our toilet is on the right wall. So if we did that and left everything where it is, you’d have to get past the toilet to get in the shower. Not ideal – so that puppy will probably just stay a shower and a tub.

I then started to think about paint again, I decided I wanted a kind of ocean color. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that the house I grew up in was 50 shades of blue. (I Love You Mom). Our kitchen was different blues and if my mind serves me right so was our one bathroom we all shared. I think the hall was blue – or maybe we never got around to painting that? Our house had panelling – our dining room was AWESOME (I miss it) but everything else was panelling. It was awful – and dark.

I thought back to my Houzz pin boards. If you don’t know is like Pinterest but for everything house. Fixtures, design, carpet, layouts AND you can ask the uploader (which is usually designers) what stuff is and they can tag it and you know how much it is and where to get it etc. It’s so cool. Here is the public idea book for the half bath. Now – we won’t demo anything, just redoing the same space. Some of the pictures just have things I love like fixtures, wall color etc.—Guest-Bath

If you want you can browse around to my other idea books….I think they are all public. I know most of the pictures aren’t of ocean colored bathrooms – I’m keeping my options open but I like the light blue color a BH&G’s color – I’ll have to get the name and show you guys. 🙂

It’s Official…

No sleep for this girl tonight.

Tomorrow Keira has her “minor surgery” to get tubes in her ears. I have to be AT the hospital at 6:30 AM. Seriously?! I thought I would get to sleep in but NO….this means I will have to get up at around 4:15 am and get dressed, pack her bag(s), get her up and in the car by 4:45 am to get to my father in law’s house by 5:25 am (with a stop for coffee and breakfast along the way) to get to the hospital in time to find a spot and get inside before her scheduled time.

I may just let Jeremy get Keira ready for bed tonight and hit the sack around 8pm. Did you notice that “let”? She usually doesn’t go to bed until 9 and get’s up around 11:45 and again around 1:30 and sleeps until 7 or 8 in the morning. For those people whose babies sleep through the night – I hate you. Not really – but sort of. She’s so stinkin’ cute I don’t mind it.

There is a long list of demands to be met: nothing to drink except for sprite (for an 11 month old???), water or apple juice after 1:30am. Nothing at all period in her mouth except for her paci after 4:30am. Wear clothes that are easy on/easy off and bring something that she’s attached to. That would be her “ball kitty” at the moment and her bottle, sippy cup, etc. (things a baby normally needs on an outing).

Jeremy is going to be an hour late to work so that he can see Seth off to school on the bus and Jeremy’s dad (Big Daddy to the kids) is going with me so I won’t be alone. I’m glad, I’d go crazy there by myself.

Also – I have a free turkey that’s going to be sitting in my fridge this year (we get one for free every year from work – awesome) so I called my brother and my mother – guess what? Thanksgiving at my house this year! Holy flippin’ cow….you’d think they’d notice if I paid a restaurant to do everything for me? lol No – I won’t do that. They at least know I will make desserts.

One more tidbit… is my new hangout. I’ve even talked to the hubs – front bathroom renovation is in the works – with one catch. I have to do everything myself (well – almost everything, who wants to do tile work on our floors?) I also plan on doing it with about a $1,000 or less budget. Watch out now! I’ll keep you updated on my progress – I’ll even take pictures! 😀 Who wants to hold me to that?

TBD or Mish Mash

I don’t know what to title this post so I’ll just leave it as it is cause there is O2 stuff, baby stuff and other stuff so it’s just a mish mash….there we go  🙂

So….I made my first sale this weekend for Origami Owl! I sold a locket to my sister-in-law Rita and she took some catalogs and business cards with her the next day to church. I was so excited and I can’t wait to get more orders and make some more people smile with their lockets! 🙂

We ate at a buffet for Jeremy’s mom’s birthday on Saturday. Keira ate four pieces of chicken, three green beans, three peach slices, two cantaloupe pieces, a few bites of jello that she could actually keep in her mouth and some ice cream. Man was she hungry! This was also the first week that we started giving her bottles with a little cereal in them before bed. She still gets up at night but it’s a longer stretch from when she first goes down for bed and the first time she gets up. Even then she only nurses for five minutes and she’s out again for another three to four hours.

Like Friday night she went to bed at about 9 and woke up at 3am. Then she was up again at 5:30 but then slept until 8:30. She has NEVER slept past seven since she was born, it was a first and REALLY nice for mommy and daddy. 🙂 These days she’s only eating cereal and fruit for breakfast and then what ever we eat for lunch and a toddler meal for dinner. Yup – toddler meals. She LOVES them and she does so good with them. I swear the girl has gained at least two pounds this week from bottles and actual dinners at night.

She started to refuse the stage 3 baby foods and that’s why we started trying the toddler meals. At daycare she eats their lunches just in her size portion. Amanda (her teacher) says she eats every bite, every day. Keira also loves her pink Playtex sippy cup. She won’t drink out of anything else and I am getting tired of washing it everyday. I will have to buy her another one. OH – and we just went from 5 oz. bottles to 10 oz. bottles. I put six ounces in them today for daycare to see if she eats it all. She had just been taking 5 oz. for the longest time – we only have one month until we can start halving her bottles with whole milk. I kind of can’t wait but at the same time it kind of makes me sad. 😦

Another reason why we’ve been giving her bottles before bed – I think my milk is drying up. I hardly get a half ounce when I pump anymore and drinking more water isn’t helping. I knew it would eventually happen but it makes me feel like my body is saying “Sorry – no more bonding time with Keira!” Jeremy has been giving her the bottles before bed and I know he enjoys that time with her. He deserves it. 🙂

As far as other things go – I am totally happier. I used to wonder what people would say when I would say or do things but I’ve come to realize that what they think or actually say – doesn’t matter because their opinion – in the end – is pointless to me. I don’t do things in my life to benefit them. A wise not old woman told me once “Those people say and do those things to get under your skin because they feel inferior to you.”

Thank you not old woman, thanks. 🙂 I always thought I wasn’t doing enough for my family but apparently – I’m totally doing enough!

Oh man…

This new job is REALLY time-consuming! But dude….I LOVE IT!

I started selling Origami Owl last week. My package comes in tomorrow and I can start booking jewelry bars! I know I won’t have tons of inventory right away but I can’t wait to build it up!

The ladies I have been talking to are so nice! They have been a lot of help trying to figure out how everything works! I am looking at display pieces and trying to figure out what to stock first – there is so much to pick from.

I’ve been constantly updating my Facebook page with photos and news. Please like my page because at 50 likes I’m giving away a crystal dangle! If you want to know about ordering please go to the notes section and if you want to book a jewelry bar just send me an email!

Next up….more new PR’s and is my phone screwed up??

New PR’s – Maybe??

So since it rained on Monday I didn’t get to go for a run until Wednesday. That’s the night that we go to church. Which means I usually go run before I get the kids and then meet Jeremy at his dad’s house cause they watch Keira while we go to church.

Well – that’s not what happened on Wednesday. Since we live 30+ minutes away from our church Jeremy wanted me to come pick him up. My car gets better gas mileage than his truck – so I said sure. I changed clothes at work, went and picked up Seth (which is back in school now 15 minutes from where I work) then went on to the house (15+ minutes from the school away from where I work) and did some house cleaning before Jeremy got home. After we all piled in the car we went to get Keira from daycare (closer to my work and Jeremy’s parents) – and then headed to get something for dinner THEN to Jeremy’s parents house.

If you’re wondering why we picked Keira up last – you try doing laundry and dishes and cleaning house while a 9 1/2 month old is clinging to your legs or wanting you to hold her or cry cause you aren’t holding her. Yeah – it felt weird being at home and her not there.

Finally – once at Jeremy’s parents house we dropped the kiddos off and headed for the park. It was about 6:30 by the time we got there. Remember – we have a 5K to run in 22 days (as of today) so we need to get in as much running as we can. We walked for a minute and stretched our muscles and then started off. I turned on my Strava after we were done stretching and didn’t touch it the whole time. I also used the band that Jeremy bought for me.

Long run short – we did 2.5 miles according to my Strava and I had a pace of 12:29 BUT Jeremy’s phone (which is different from mine and in a Otterbox case) says that he did 2.1 miles and had a pace of 15:06. WTHeck?!? When we look at the GPS mapping of the route we took his is more smooth and mines all over the place. His also says that we started and stopped at the same place and mine says we didn’t (but we kind of did so it should at least be close but it’s not).

Does that mean that all my mileage and times are wrong?! Could it have been from the arm band covering up my phone that interfered with the GPS signal? I don’t know. I was mad!!! Then Jeremy said this after we looked at all my other runs and saw that they were kind of off too “At least your phone has been consistently wrong which means you have been improving.” Huh?

He meant that since my phone hasn’t been exactly recording, but I’ve been using the same phone, the PR’s I got on the run for Wednesday are still improvements. See what I’m saying? Here are my PR’s from Wednesday:
400m         1:37
1/2 Mile     4:43
1K               6:30
1 Mile        11:07
2 Miles      24:35

Those are a little better than my 2nd place times so maybe Jeremy is right. I don’t know. Maybe I will use some of the extra money I earn from my new venture to buy myself one of those GPS watches. Maybe that will be better than my phone!

What do you use to keep up with your runs?

O2 – Girly and Shiny Things!

I first saw Origami Owl (or O2) back about three or four months ago at a craft show. I really wanted to buy everything right then and there but the lady said you had to sign up for it because there was a waiting list. So – after thinking about it for a few days I decided to sign up. When the time came I could decided then if I really wanted to do it.

Well – that time came last Friday when I got my email with my sign up link. I had until today to sign up and I did it yesterday! I’m really excited about this opportunity and can’t wait to see what happens next!

BUT – (there is always one of those isn’t there) I may not be posting as often as I have been for a bit. Just until I get settled into how to do things and how everything works – you know – just until I get my bearings. I don’t want to leave you guys hanging!

On that note – I will be posting about the run that Jeremy and I took together on Wednesday and how I discovered my phone isn’t quite what I thought it was. :/

I wasn’t running….

Stupid weather!

Ugh – yesterday before work was over I changed into my running gear. Which means I slipped into my new Danskin knee-length leggings, a new sports bra and a bright pink tank from American Eagle plus my New Balance shoes. I looked AWESOME if I do say so myself!

The only downer…as soon as I got into the car and started heading for the park – all kinds of nasty black clouds descended and it rained the rest of the day. DARN IT! I so need a gym membership where they have treadmills. Looking into it this week. I may sound weak and prissy but I can’t stand to run in the rain. Is it just me? Also – running in the rain and getting into my car with leather seats soaking wet probably isn’t a good idea. Oh – and my husband would kill me. Just sayin’.

I brought everything to run again today and it’s looking prettier so cross your fingers and pray that it doesn’t rain today. I really really NEED to run today. Like – it’s only been a month since I started running but when I miss a run it kills me. It feels like I don’t have a good day if I don’t go run. I feel like I eat worse (but I don’t I promise) and I feel – well – fat. I’ve lost about 4 pounds and have kept it off but I have 21 pounds left to go.

I found a small “express” gym in town, close to work and the daycare for Keira that only costs $15.99 a month with no contract AND it’s open 24/7. It has no daycare, no pool, no court for basketball or anything but like I need that! Keira is in daycare and Seth is back in school so I could go before I go and get them. I am going to call later and ask what kind of equipment they have. I think they even have trainers on site 24/7 which is awesome.

Wish me luck for today – oh – and I have the opportunity to get in on something new so I will let you know if that pans out. I’ll give you a hint – it’s girly and shiny. 🙂

My Stats

On Friday the 10th of this month I started running again. I was nervous, scared and excited.

I have mentioned this before but I have an app on my phone I use for running. It’s called Strava. You should check it out. I like it a lot better than I liked my Nike + band (which I plan on selling at some point).

That Friday I went to a nature park to run. I hate road running, it aggravates my hurt knee more than trail running does. I had never been to this park, had never even heard of it until a few months before. I got there and it was sun shinning, maybe low 90’s and no clouds. I got about a half mile into the woods and it started POURING. So I turned and went back to the car. I wasn’t going to do much that day anyway BUT my phone decided to freeze and it didn’t save my run. I had to manually put it in Strava’s website so it didn’t calculate my pace, calories or anything. Bummer.

On the 13th I didn’t go running because I forgot all my gear (my shoes mainly). You can’t really run in flip-flops. On the 15th (Wednesday) I did go. I went to a park near my work and ran their paved track just to see if it would really aggravate me like it used to. It wasn’t so bad but this day I forgot my phone. I haven’t manually put it in Strava yet – cause well – I kind of forgot. I was so pissed I forgot my phone. It felt like I lost an arm or something that day.

Now on the 17th I did go running and I remembered my phone, my shoes and my change of clothes! Go me! I went to a trail I had seen before but never been down. It looked really pretty. That’s my Instagram feed, in case you didn’t know. 🙂
So – my phone actually recorded that run which I call Battlefield 2. It’s the second trail I’ve ever run there.
1.9 Miles
34 feet in elevation climbed
25:33 Moving time
13:39/mile Average Pace
265 Calories Burned
Dude – 13:39 a mile. I thought it was alright. Not amazeballs but good for the fourth time out right?

I don’t run on the weekends…too many kids to look after and things to do. So on Monday I went out again to a different trail. I call it Battlefield 3. New trail and new area. Half of this was part of a still used but old paved service road for the battlefield.
2.4 Miles
0 feet in elevation climbed (HA! could have fooled me)
34:29 Moving time
14:33/mile Average Pace
331 Calories Burned
This day my calf muscles were KILLING me and so were my ankles. I had to stop and pause the app several times to stretch them out. No wonder my pace was slower. I was so mad at myself for the slower pace.

Then this past Wednesday (the 22nd) I went out again to Battlefield 2. It was cooler which was nice. On the way back to the car I had to stop and pause the app because there were two deer in the way. They thought I was interesting I guess. They stopped and stared at me for a good three minutes and one even tried getting a bit closer (I was about 50-60 yards away). Then they went on about their business.
2.2 Miles
41 feet in elevation climbed
31:53 Moving time
14:12/mile Average Pace
315 Calories Burned
Still slower than the 13:39 pace….still aggravated with myself BUT…..

I have set a few PR’s since I have been using this app.
PR for 1 mile time:   13:23
PR for 400m:             2:36

I don’t know how well that stacks up to other people but I am pretty proud of myself. I’ve been at this for two weeks and I’ve lost three pounds and I bought new jeans Wednesday and they were sevens….SEVENS. I haven’t seen that size since a few months before I got pregnant with Keira (in March 2011).

I don’t follow anyone on Strava and no one is following me. If you are a runner I highly recommend this app and if you do download it – follow me! I need encouragement and me talking out loud to myself on my runs works but it’s good to get kudo’s when your done too and post it! Oh – by the way – I am not paid or perked by Strava for this review of their app or any other blog post I’ve mentioned them in. I doubt they even know I and my little blog exist. I am still trying to figure out how to get their widget on here. Hopefully I will figure it out soon so you can keep up with me and keep me accountable. 🙂

What do you guys think of my times? Horrible? Good for a restart after taking a year and half off? Kick butt? I don’t know what to compare it to or anything. An average finishing time for a 5k is under 30 minutes. Obviously I have lots of work to do before my first one at the end of next month!!!!
